The useful question is not “Which weapon is strongest?” but “What must be true for this weapon to keep working?”

Start with the weapon’s job
Direct weapons create repeatable pressure when you can hold a target inside range and arc. Beams may reward sustained tracking; projectile weapons may reward timing and lead. The interface and current ship panel should settle the precise behavior for your chosen hull.
Missiles create delayed pressure and force the defender’s point-defense coverage to matter. Their path, target choice, launch timing, and saturation are as important as the launcher. A volley sent alone into ready defenses often creates noise rather than damage.
Spinal weapons turn the ship into part of the aiming system. They trade flexible arcs for concentrated forward pressure. Carrier craft project influence away from the hull but introduce travel time, commands, rearming, losses, and the danger of sending a wing through defenses it cannot survive.
Read arcs before damage
Spawn into a safe moment and identify which directions each weapon group can cover. A broadside ship may need to expose its side. A forward-focused ship may lose output during a retreat turn. A turreted weapon may still have structures or hull geometry that interrupt tracking. The correct engagement angle keeps important groups working without offering the enemy an ideal profile.
When several groups have different ranges, do not chase the shortest number automatically. Decide whether closing unlocks enough extra pressure to justify the damage and escape risk. Sometimes the right play is to contribute with the longer group while the team creates a safer approach.

Missiles need a timing plan
A missile launch should answer three questions: What is the target doing? Which defensive coverage can reach the volley? What friendly pressure will occupy the defender when the missiles arrive? If the enemy has intact point defense and no other threat, delay or select a weaker angle.
Launches can support a push by making the target turn, splitting defensive attention, or punishing an isolated ship. Point defense is a shared resource
Community documentation describes point defense as automatic coverage against missiles and squadrons inside its operating area. That makes relative position crucial: a teammate’s coverage may help you, while an isolated carrier or capital ship has only its own surviving mounts.
Some mounts are described by players as dual-purpose. Firing them at a ship can reduce the attention or cycle available for incoming threats, depending on current behavior. Point defense reduces threats; it should not be treated as guaranteed immunity. Saturation, blind angles, damaged mounts, positioning, and current balance can change the outcome.
Spinal weapons reward alignment
Spinal weapons are large hull-mounted systems commonly associated with capital ships. Because the hull aims the weapon, every shot begins with positioning. Pick a lane that gives the target limited lateral movement, begin alignment before the firing window, and know where the ship can turn out afterward.

Combine weapons instead of cycling blindly
Mixed loadouts work when one system creates conditions for another. Direct pressure can occupy shields or force a turn before missiles arrive. Missiles can make a target expose a different angle. Fighters can scout or threaten an isolated ship while the carrier stays protected. A spinal shot can punish a target committed to an objective lane.
Do not press every control simply because it is ready. Keep one response available for the enemy’s next move. If defensive craft are approaching, preserve appropriate coverage. If the target is about to leave the arc, avoid committing a long cycle that will miss.
Communicate focus where possible. Several moderate attacks arriving together usually demand more from defenses than the same attacks delivered one at a time.
Match weapon choice to the mode

Diagnose low damage correctly
If a match produces little useful damage, do not immediately blame the weapon. Review time in range, time inside arc, target choice, obstruction, missed cycles, overlong missile travel, spinal alignment, and the moment you were forced to retreat. Often the solution is a better first position rather than a different ship.
If shots visibly connect but results differ from an older guide, trust the current combat feedback and ship panel. Balance can change. Capture the ship name, weapon group, match conditions, and date before asking the community; a precise observation is easier to confirm than “this weapon feels broken.”
Safe practice routine
Use ordinary matches and choose one weapon group to study. First learn the maximum practical distance indicated by the current interface. Next learn the arc boundary. Then watch one complete reload or recharge cycle. Finally, practice turning out while keeping some pressure available.
For missiles, observe how defenders respond. For point defense, stay near a teammate and watch coverage. For spinals, choose a predictable lane rather than chasing. For carriers, use the carrier guide and keep wings close enough to command and recover.
After the match, change only one choice. This turns weapon learning into repeatable evidence instead of a string of new ships, new maps, and new assumptions.
